At-Home HPV Self-Sampling

NHS North West LondonxDaye

As part of the SHINE-NWL pilot, some patients invited by their GP are being offered the option to collect their cervical screening sample using the Daye diagnostic tampon kit.

You can take the sample yourself at home, or at your GP practice. The sample is sent to an accredited laboratory. Your result is returned securely to your GP, who will contact you with the outcome and arrange any follow-up if needed.

What is cervical screening and HPV?

Cervical screening used to be called a smear test. It's not a test for cancer, it's a test that looks certain types of human papillomavirus (HPV). HPV is a group of over 100 viruses, some of these are identified as high risk for cancer, which can cause changes to the cells of your cervix. If these types of HPV are not found, you do not need any further tests. If these types of HPV are found, you will need to attend for a full cervical screening test so the cells of your cervix can be checked for any changes. These can be treated to help prevent cervical cancer.
